Future Neighbourhood Watch Reports may be added here. Meanwhile, here’s some advice for us all from Patricia Gillard:
“1 Don’t leave any keys, bags or other valuables in the front hall. These can be retrieved by magnets on a rod and bags can be pulled nearer the letter box and rifled or the window can be broken and keys taken.
2 Don’t leave the packaging of expensive purchases (e.g. TVs, computers etc.) on view outside ready for the bin collectors, until collection day.
3 Do let a neighbour know if you are away for a few days, and ask a neighbour to empty an outside post box if you have one.
4 When neighbours are on holiday, please push through any obvious post that has not been fully delivered into the house, and close their letterbox. And return wheelie bins to their usual place after being emptied.
5 Don’t forget to cancel milk, paper delivery etc.
6 Leave lights on a timer switch to come on whilst you are away.
7 Lock sheds and outdoor cupboards. Padlocks can be cut with bolt cutters and it advisable to fit hinge locks also as door hinges can be removed.
8 Have locks on your windows.
9 Have a House Alarm fitted and set your alarm at night. Lock front and back doors at night.
10 Lock your doors when you go out. Have a secure door chain fitted and do not let anyone that you do not know into your house. Check that identity cards are authentic.
11 Don’t leave paper in your dustbin with your name and address or financial details on in case of identity theft!
12 Don’t leave items visible in your car; e.g. bags and coats may be empty, but thieves do not know this!
13 PVC clear window covering is available to keep glass intact should a window be broken.
14 Report anything suspicious at the time to the Police on 999 if it’s an emergency, or 101 if it’s not (see further information here).
