Alan Stuart Harding

In memory of Alan …
Dear members of our Association,
It is with great sadness and a real sense of loss that we say goodbye to and announce the passing of Alan Harding of Heathway.
He has been one of our strongest and boldest heroes of all the causes and challenges that we have faced as a neighbourhood community. He was never fearful of standing up and speaking for us, his research into Planning matters was thorough and profound and he had great experience and a very keen understanding of the technicalities of such matters.
To put it bluntly, he would hit the nail on the head, and so precisely there was absolutely no doubt about it. This forthrightness however did not conceal a genuinely kind and caring nature. He would do things that others would only talk about or pay lip service to.
Many many times I would see him marching down Heathway with shopping bags or cycling along purposefully on a particular mission never to be deterred.
A champion amongst us all but also a kind, knowledgeable and thoughtful man whom it was a pleasure to have known and respected as a dear neighbour and friend.

Film & Theatre Club, May 2018
The first theatre visit was to see A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, as performed at Greenwich Theatre, on May 25th.
“I have had a most rare vision. I had a dream, past the wit of man to say what dream it was”.
Not past the wit of William Shakespeare fortunately whose famous comedy was well played out on the stage at Greenwich to the delight of the audience including the members of our film and theatre club.
Puck in particular stood out as a most accomplished role very well played and the play was well directed although may have been better suited to the open air rather than a smoky stage full of confetti, however amusing that was.
We hope you will consider joining us next time which will be a film event to be announced soon. We missed your company.

Dining Club, February 2018
The Dining Club came together at the Taste of Raj on the Royal Parade, on February 27th, 2018.
“On a cold snowy evening the brave ventured out into Blackheath Village to enjoy a delicious Indian meal in the Taste of Raj Indian restaurant.
Six of us braved the elements and had an enjoyable evening sitting in a warm restaurant next to the window enjoying a romantic view of the church on the snow-covered Heath.
There was a good, wide choice of food and drinks. The service was efficient and friendly and the meals arrived hot. No complaints about food, service, price or location.
Our evening was enlivened by a group of fellow diners enjoying a Birthday Party complete with candles and a sing-song of ‘Happy Birthday’.”

Dining Club, 2017
The Heathway Dining Club met at the Chinipan Indian Restaurant in the Old Dover Road, on March 1st, 2017.
“On that cold damp evening… We were warmly welcomed by the staff and the seven of us enjoyed an evening full of laughter over a pleasant meal – with wine! The menu was comprehensive and reasonably priced.
We had a pleasant evening and got to know each other better in convivial surroundings.
It was our first foray and we hope to repeat it at other local restaurants.”

In June 2012 we celebrated Summer(?) and the Jubilee with a very successful Garden Party.
